A New Instant Camera from Polaroid
Do you like this story?
It's very likely a new Polaroid camera is in the works according to Wired who spotted a very interesting article on Amateur Photographer asking its readers to help Polaroid design a new digital camera with an built-in printer. Whether the new Polaroid camera will be as bulky as the old one is unknown, but the company is seeking reader feedback on whether this new version should include an external battery, a hotshoe for an external flash, and a higher pixel count.
The UK magazine doesn't seem to have too many details regarding the project, but it does say the instant digicam will feature the same technology found in the recently launched Polaroid PoGo Instant Mobile Printer which uses Bluetooth and a USB connection to print photos stored in mobile devices.
Besides being able to take pictures, one of the main differences between the PoGo Instant Mobile Printer and the Polaroid PoGo ProSeries camera (as it's being called), will be the large 4 x 3 inch prints it will produce which are closer in size to the original Polaroid photos we all know and loved.
The camera is slated for release next year and strangely enough, its target market will be "professional and business users," although I doubt that will be the case once it comes out. Apparently, a lower end, more affordable ZINK-enabled camera that produces 2 x 3 inch prints is also in the works, so keep an eye on that too.
It all sounds like a great idea but it will be a tough sell in a day and age when you can instantly publish your photos online or at the local supermarket.
